Learning our letters!

This week, P1 have started to learn how to read some letters!

We spent two days looking at a then two days looking at t.  The boys and girls have done really well at drawing their as and ts on their worksheets, and today they used their jotters for the first time.  What lovely work!

We have also been learning about the characters from the Oxford Reading Tree and have read some stories with Miss Campbell and Mrs Macdonald.  Some of the P1s can now read the words Kipper, Biff, Chip, Mum, Dad and Floppy!  Well done Primary 1!

We have been doing lots of counting games, and have been learning about writing 0, 1 and 2.

Next week we are having an outdoor learning afternoon.  Miss Campbell and Mrs Macdonald can't wait!

Literacy Areas

In our classroom we also have lots of areas to encourage us to read and write.

Here we can practise writing on whiteboards and paper, and we can stick letters and numbers on to the board.

Our writing will be displayed on this wall.

We read in the library.  There are lots of books.

What is your favourite book?

Our Maths Area

The Primary One teachers have been busy making your classroom an exciting and colourful place to work in. This is the maths area. We can use the hats to practise counting from 0 to 10. We can also write on the special boards on the wall and practise writing our numbers and drawing shapes.

We can also count using different objects, including teddies and fish. We can make patterns using the beads, fish or teddies.

Learning about numbers and shapes is lots of fun!!

Primary One at St Cuthbert’s have been really busy since they started school last week.  They have drawn lovely pictures of their first day at school and written their names on their pictures.  We’ve learned about all of the different colours, and have been trying to learn the Polish words for the colours too.  We have also practised drawing around our hands and then cutting carefully with scissors.

The boys and girls have been learning about sitting nicely and putting their hands up when they want to speak.  They have been doing lots of playing, and are getting very good at tidying up quickly.  Well done Primary One!

Primary One all come for full days from Monday 26th August onwards.  They will start at 8.55am, have lunch in the dinner hall with the big boys and girls, and leave at 3.00pm.

Mrs Macdonald and I are looking forward to having you at school all day next week!
